Romeo Del Castello Etna Rosso Allegracore 2016
Romeo del Castello is a 35-acre estate located 2,300 feet up Mount Etna; it is surrounded by a lava flow from an eruption in 1981 that threated to wipe out the entire domain, but luckily the 100-year-old vineyard of Nerello Mascalese was spared. Today Rosanna Romeo and her daughter Chiara Vigo are taking this historic winery to an even higher level. Their “Allegracore,” a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Capuccio, is a truly stunning wine: harmonious and elegant, with vibrant red fruits, it gains great complexity from well-integrated fine tannins, bright acidity and earthy, mineral notes on the long finish. Organic.
