Ettore Germano Vino Spumante Rosato 2016

The Germano estate, founded in 1856 by Francis Germano, began as a wine-growing property. It quickly established itself as one of the premier wine-growing estates in all of Piemonte. Today the estate is run by Sergio Germano. Sergio's father, Ettore, was long recognized as a master grafter of the region. Producers all over the appellation paid him by the vine to replant their vineyards. So it comes as no surprise that Sergio has emerged as one of the best producers in Piemonte. After taking over in 1993, he merged his formidable technical winemaking knowledge with his family's great terroir, old vines and incredible tradition, creating an estate that has become among the very best in Piedmont.
Ettore Germano's Spumante Rosato is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The wine is made in the traditional method, with the base wine being fermented in 80% stainless steel and 20% large French oak barrels. The secondary fermentation occurs in bottle, and the wine is left on the lees for 18 months. Germano's Spumante is a light pink color with a persistent, fine bead of mousse. Aromas of white flowers and light berry fruits waft from the glass. On the palate, the wine is austere in a very complex and pleasing way. A sharp acidity refreshes the palate along with a finely textured mousse. Enjoy as an apertif or with light fried foods like clams or calamari.
