Cos Frappato Sicilia 2014
Cos follows the principles of biodynamic viticulture in the vineyard to help find and maintain balance and harmony with nature; thus allowing the wine to express the depth of the character of its soils. COS is in the process of converting their entire cellar to strictly amphora aging in hopes of creating a true “Cos Style”. In 2005 the company purchased the property adjacent to their property at Villa Fontane: an extraordinary nineteenth-century wine cellar. Immediately they began the restoration of the building and the creation of a new winery. Their 2005 vintage was the first to acquire DOCG in Sicily. The estate pays homage to Sicilia’s native grapes, cultivating wines from Frappato di Vittoria, Nero d’Avola, Inzolia, and Grecanico. While most of these varietals appear in blends, preeminent portfolio positioning is accorded to Nero d’Avola, which figures in several monovarietal bottlings.
The Frappato is "a vibrant red, with light tannins framing flavors of dried marjoram and thyme, crushed currant, wild strawberry and star anise. Finely knit, offering a lasting finish." 90 Points, Wine Spectator
