Barolo Le Rocche De Falletto Giacosa 2013
2013 is shaping up to be a benchmark year for Barolo, and Giacosa’s Barolo Rocche del Falletto embraces its excellent year in a wine that is complex, harmonious, and ethereal. Fistfuls of red and blue fruits layer with violet petals, warm baking spices, raspberry jam, cocoa, freshly tilled earth, cigar wrapper and orange zest in this radiant, balanced wine. A sweet inner perfume finds its complement in subdued brooding, meaty notes, while polished tannins meet their match in animated acidity. Upon release, this wine is taking its time to reveal its many layers, which suggests it has the stuffing for the long haul. Giacosa Le Rocche del Falletto derives from 40-year-old vines grown in Giacosa's Falletto cru; grapes ferment for about two weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and the wine ages for 32 months in botti, followed by eight months in bottle.
